About Us It’s not an easy feat to blend the inventive style of a trendy New York eatery with the comfort food of southern cuisine, but Del Merei Grille in Alexandria’s Del Ray neighborhood pulls it off, and with an intoxicating smile on its collective face. The energetic, happy vibe is infectious – owners (and childhood friends and now brother and sister in law) Mary Abraham Reid and Eric Reid with their entire staff, many of whom are family, love this place and what they do, and it shows. The atmosphere – earth tones, granite and a gorgeous tile mosaic on the bar side with bold splashes of deep crimson and brilliant gold on the dining side – is at once friendly yet sophisticated, while the carefully designed menu offers comfort food with an upscale, contemporary twist. Diners can choose one of Chef Eric’s innovative creations or select their own grilled entrée, homemade sauce and two sides. Choosing from the eleven mouthwatering sides presents as much of a challenge as does the extensive wine list. The good news is, with these options, at these prices, you can’t make a bad choice. In addition to the dinner menu, there is a seasonal menu with even more choices. Lunch introduces more culinary delights, allowing diners to create a masterpiece salad or sandwich and a long list of other satisfying options. The bar menu features local favorite Vienna Inn chili dogs (Mary’s grandparents owned and operated the Vienna Inn for forty years). Del Merei Grille has quickly become a neighborhood favorite where patrons return again and again: for the gracious hospitality, the consistently amazing food and that feeling of being home again. Try our sister restaurant, Monroes, owned and operated by Mary’s parents Mark and Laura Abraham.
